The Sile and the Cagnan rivers, along with numerous canals, and the Medieval houses of the Urbs Picta, with their frescoed facades, delineate the city’s identity.
Among the loveliest sights are the Buranelli canal, the Pescheria island, with its daily fish market, and the old port at Dante Bridge. Piazza dei Signori is the city’s outdoor salon, with the Palazzo dei Trecento and Calmaggiore, where, exploring streets and alleyways, you will come across the “Fountain of the Tits,” symbol of the so-called Marca Gioiosa et Amorosa. The city centre also offers many excellent restaurants and old taverns, where you can taste ombre (glasses of wine), spritzes and goloxessi (finger food).
There are numerous enjoyable walks to explore in town, discovering old mills and alleyways, along the medieval city walls, designed by Fra Giocondo, with their monumental gates – Porta San Tomaso and Porta Santi Quaranta -, and the Restera, along the Sile river, on foot or by bike.
Museums and churches will complete your experience with cultural and artistic attractions, for the lovers of ancient art (Santa Caterina Civic Museum, Cathedral, Diocesan Museum, San Francesco and San Nicolò churches) as well as of modern and contemporary art (Bailo Civic Museum, Gallerie delle Prigioni, Salce Collection).
