The “Golden Ring” of Treviso

Springs, streams, and green rivers; Venetian Villas, historic parks, noble chapels, parish churches, ancient mills… this is the “Garden of Venice,” which on its eastern side forms a crown around Treviso, the city of water.

A 40-kilometer ring to walk or cycle, starting from any point you choose: from the city itself—crossed by the Sile and watered by the canals of the Botteniga, called Cagnani, and then by the Storga and the Limbraga; or from the restera, the path along the Sile Park; or from the ancient village of Melma, now Silea, following the river from which it took its name; or again from Carbonera, with its villas and streams whose names echo the sound of flowing water (Rul, Nerbon, Mignagola), their distinct character (Melma, Piovensan, Musestre and Musestrelle), or their function (Pulise, Bagnon).
Further north, passing through Biban and Pezzan, we reach Vascon and the Fontane Bianche; then, curving southward, we cross the wetlands of the Storga springs and its nature park, the triumph of villas in the Santa Margherita district, le Acquette, Selvana Bassa, and we return once more to the city. Nor should we overlook that the route is dotted with traditional trattorias and osterias, but also vegetable gardens, small farms with direct sales, and artisan food producers.

We hereby suggest an idea—still open to improvement and expansion—for a small, marvelous journey, designed by the Mazzotti Literary Prize and Fondazione Giuseppe Mazzotti, together with Villa Tiepolo Passi, to pay tribute to the man who “rediscovered” Venetian Villas, relaunching them through a vision of slow and cultural tourism, history, art and lanscape conservation: a tour paced by beauty, which, for the extraordinary richness of its values, I like to call the “Golden Ring of Treviso.”
