Itinerary 1 – Venetian Villas: nature and ingenuity

Groups | Duration 1h 30m

This historical–naturalistic itinerary includes a visit to the noble garden with its water circuit—an ancient hydraulic system recently restored—and the interiors of the villa’s central block.

A fascinating tour through history, art and landscape. After an interesting introduction about the origins and functions of Venetian Villas, the tour leads visitors in the interiors and the exteriors with an exciting storytelling of past and present Villa living: the great solar clock marked by busts of ancient philosophers; the marvellous tree-lined perspective; the rooms of the manor house with period furnishings and sumptuous frescoes by Pietro Antonio Cerva, known as il Bolognese; the geometric designs of the Italian-style formal garden and the exotic trees of the English-style Romantic park; and the water circuit, featuring the monumental hydraulic wheel (rosta) measuring 6.5 metres in diameter, the fill basins, the former icehouse grotto, and the fishpond, once supporting the sustenance of the villa community.
