Itinerary 3 – Holy Agriculture and the “roccolo” or birdcatcher’s reserve

Groups & Private Tours | Duration 2h 30m

This extension to the visit itinerary is ideal for those seeking a full immersion in the world of Villa Civilization.

Other than the villa, the noble garden, the water circuit and the family chapel, it features a walk through the spaces of the rural agricultural park—the estate of Villa Tiepolo Passi—skirting vineyards, ancient field-boundary hedgerows, and the floodplain area of the Piovensan stream, with their rich biodiversity. The focal point of the route is the roccolo, the ancient birdcatcher’s reserve, now a site for birdwatching and home to a small museum housed in the former birdcatcher’s lodge.

“The park of the Venetian villa is ‘the well-ordered countryside’,” Palladio explained: a landscape that was, at the time, “never before seen,” composed of cultivated fields, rows of trees, windbreak hedges, riverside trees, meadows, and small hunting woods.
